Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy BPH Treatment in the Central Coast of California
What is Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy?
Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses the natural energy stored in water vapor, or steam, to remove excess prostate tissue that is pressing on the urethra. It is a procedure commonly used to treat an enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Is Rezūm Therapy FDA Approved?
Rezūm technology became approved by the FDA in 2015 as a solution for enlarged prostate and the various urologic symptoms associated with it. Enlarged prostate commonly affects men over 50, but symptoms may also begin when you’re younger.
Who May Benefit from Rezūm Therapy?
An enlarged prostate can cause frustrating symptoms for men, including:
- frequent urination
- hesitancy in urination
- urgency to urinate
- a weak urinary stream
- obstructed urinary outflow
Rezūm is a procedure to help use the natural energy stored in steam to shrink the prostate, so urine can flow freely. There are no incisions, and typically it does not require general anesthesia. You can benefit from this therapy if you have an enlarged prostate and are free from any kidney issues. Talk to a urologist at Urology Associates of the Central Coast about your medical history to see if you can benefit from Rezūm.
What to Expect
Rezūm therapy is performed within your urologist’s office in just minutes. The entire therapy session will last less than 30 minutes.
What you can expect with Rezūm:
- A healthcare provider will numb the area before the procedure to reduce discomfort.
- The instrument goes through your urethra, so you won’t have incisions or need stitches.
- Your urologist will inject the water vapor or steam into the targeted prostate tissue.
- The steam will start to destroy cells and break apart legions.
- The urinary channel is now free to open once the legions are gone
- Each individual treatment takes about 10 seconds. Up to 15 treatments can be given during one procedure.
- Your urologist will determine the number of treatments you need based on the size of your prostate.
After Rezūm Therapy
This simple procedure will require a few days to take full effect.
After the procedure you can expect:
- To use a catheter to help you urinate until the swelling goes down
- Three days after the procedure you’ll return to have this catheter removed
- Effects are most noticeable after the first two weeks
- Symptoms will continue to improve for months to come
